The Painful Truth About Overseas Development Assistance
Two main takeaways from the interview: One was this fairly bleak picture about just how inefficient, much, perhaps most overseas aid from rich countries is. The story he told about the program to get some kind of sanitation for girls in school was pretty stark. Second one was just this kind of crazy mismatch between the fact that big philanthropists had also, I presume, foreign aid departments in rich countries struggle to spend large amounts of money on alleviating poverty and global health.
