Apocalypses date back to the Hellenistic period. The earliest ones are found in second-temple Judaism, but there is an issue with their earlier apocalypses in other traditions. You don't get round-trip journeys to heaven in the Hebrew Bible. But you have a tradition of that in Greek, picked up in Latin, and you know, Virgil has it.
