Is the State's Obligation to Guarantee Your Rights?
In Williams v. Taylor, the Supreme Court said council had been ineffective for largely the same deficiencies. The way the majority opinion operates here places an enormous burden on the defendant to show that his attorney was ineffective. This is something you can frequently see like in the background of a lot of civil rights cases where they're talking about procedures for vindicating constitutional rights.
