In a supernova explosion, the sun's fuel source is only absorbing energy. The star can't fuse so it has no other choice but to explode. If those stars didn't explode, the universe would have all those elements locked up with nothing to make planets and people out of. We are not just poetically stardust; we are literally stardust.
