As a kid growing up in the 80s, personally, I recognize the appeal to them right away. There's no better way to make a person or a kid feel special by making them feel unique. No one else had that doll. It's a brilliant marketing, well, possibly inadvertent marketing strategy,. But really hasn't been duplicated to that same extent.
