The White House and Republican lawmakers are inching closer to closing a deal that would raise the national debt limit for two years while imposing caps on discretionary spending not related to military or veterans. The deal, if agreed upon and enacted, would raise the government's borrowinglimit for two years past the 2024 presidential election. And in exchange for raising the debt limit, Republicans' demand to cut some federal spending would be met,. according to The New York Times.
