The Difference Between Ritual and Discipline

Ritual is something that has, that is somewhat arbitrary whereas a discipline has intent. Why do we like our methods to be four or five lines long? Well, there's a reason behind that. There are rituals that are arbitrary and they identify us. But it also becomes just a ritual, something arbitrary. Test driven developers. They have purpose but at the same time it becomes kind of an automatic thing. How discipline is as more, as a more formalized intentional thing.
