The idea that education is something for everyone is actually a very recent idea, isn't it? It's thinkers like Rousseau and Wollstonecraft who've come a long way from Plato millennia ago. And it definitely goes along with the rise of democracy. Elitist thinkers would like to think if you're going to give people a vote, you'd better educate them first.
