We don't deny that which we colloquially call matter and stuff, because that would be denying an experience that we all have. What we deny is the philosophical interpretation, or the philosophical definition, of what that experience is supposed to be. All matter is what mental processes look like when observed from across a dissociative boundary. Inner life experiences have causes and effects on other experiences. Idealism is not a dualism.
