The Importance of Identity in Crowds

Crowds tell us about the values of a particular group, and who they see as their friends or foes. So in some sense, then people are maybe clumping together with people who are like-minded. But it's not that you lose identity and lose control, you shift control to the norms and values of the group. Now, certainly some groups have got appalling, ambitious values,. Nazi crowds, genocidal, anti-Semitic, authoritarian and so on. They weren't mindless. And the pathology was not a psycho pathology, a loss of mind. It was much more a socio-pathology was rooted in those values.
