In England, the top scientists appeared regularly on television along with the prime minister etc. And I think they were respected because they did emphasize the uncertainty. But of course most important of all, vaccines were developed within a year. Which is which is unprecedented unfortunately in some sense gives a public that has false expectations about how quickly or well problems can be solved. People like Mr Fauci you talk about is as much a source of derision in the US as as pride I suppose.
