Today in the U.S., there are a lot of protections for the press after the Supreme Court decision in the 60s, New York Times versus Sullivan. Even in a newspaper is very hard, especially if you're a public figure. It requires proving defamation, which is nearly impossible. So it just shows that our understanding of what freedom of the press looks like can really change over the decades.
