The Benefits of Being Monogamous

Natural selection seems to actively be keeping both of these brain types around. There doesn't seem to be a single kind of a normal brain for prairie vols. And evolution seems to be pretty ok with that. Promiscuous voles may be forgetful, but they still mate a lot so they do good work continuing species. But what's the evolutionary benefit of monogamy? So having a male around can help defend them. Having a male around Can also keep them warm while the female is out foraging.
