Rylok, i answerd this idea of preventative detention. But that seems to be highly problematic impunitive in and of itself. How do you decide who is and who isn't likely to go on and commit another crime? Even if you were to accept that, maybe there are applications for something like this. These laws enable courts to keep the most dangerous criminals behind bars. It doesn't seem like it is a principle that should be applied to anything but the most serious of offenders.
