The Grail Legends Are Related to the Eucharist
The practice of sharing both the bread and the wine with all the worshippers was more and more rare, such that by about 12 hundred it was extremely rare. So clearly, the grail legends must be connected in some way to these changing ideas and practices of the eucharist. And another further indication that clearly there is a link here, is that there was a common notion now among the church that th the mass was highly important. It should be highly formalized, ritualized, and that the deacon is an important element.
