He was a wonderful lecturer, partly because he was very humorous, while at the same time being so cund of deeply committed. I came to feel it was partly connected to wichenstein that the issues that wickenstein was coming to grip with were so ultimately kind of intractable. It sort of made me want to engage in a form of philosophy in which i could feel that i was genuinely making some progress in understanding something important about the world.
