The quick assignment, i think it exists so that you don't have to define the type of a variable. It also gives the language more of a feel like a dynamically typed language as well. There are some specific things in go that are kind of type ambiguous until you say what type is. I might be wrong about this, but i don't think you can use a the quick assignment outside a function.
