Some countries those old left institutions have been replaced by new left oppositions from La France and Sumise in France to Paudémos in Spain, Suriza in Greece. By 2020 it seemed that the new left populists had been mostly defeated why I think there are a variety of factors involved. The political context in which they operate is not just one of the decline of social democratic parties but one of widespread disengagement and debongolization of civil society as a whole.
