The Blackmailer's Charter
In the mid 19 hundreds, you kind of get a new language emerging. It's called palaring. In 18 85 it gets harsher again in what is known as the blackmailers charter. And it's the act that destroys oscar wilde. The law then changes again in eihteen 61 a. This is when the death penalty is removed. We can't think of the changes in the law as just increasingly progressive all the time. But this it gets better. So even though the last executions in in britain were in 18 35, it was a homosexuality was no longer a capital offence from 18 61 and so on.
