Why the Supreme Court Picked Ernesto Miranda's Case?
Ernesto Arturo Miranda's case was selected because his name was higher up alphabetically in the pile of 150 documents. The US Supreme Court ruled that unless police inform a person about their constitutional rights prior to any questioning, then what they said cannot be used against them as evidence. According to US Constitution dot net, you don't have to be Mirandaized to be arrested. If police have enough probable cause and evidence to initiate an arrest, they can arrest you for a crime and not read you a Miranda warning. You must be Mirandaized and acknowledge your rights before being questioned about a case as a suspect. Otherwise, police cannot use what you say as evidence against you.
