Three years later, 17 70 simmering tensions between the british occupiers and the boston residencs boiled over. Thinly disguised as mohawks, they destroyed more than 92 thousand pounds of british tea by dumping it into the harbor. Many of the east indian company shareholders were members of parliament. They each had paid a thousand pounds sterling, a million dollars in to day's money for a share of the company that was going to force down the throats of the colonists.
