The Expert Blind Spot
The expert blind spot is something that plagues experts when they try to communicate their understanding to non-experts. Things are self-evident to them that they can't begin to even think about how they could explain it to somebody else. A certain mode of thinking about language itself or a certain mode ofthinking about geometry and those kinds of relations so it becomes so second nature that you don't know what it is that you need to teach. Most of the students who don't kind of engage just deeply don't ever get, he says.
