The Importance of Military Service for Midwestern Muslims

The book is a very traditional kind of history in that it pays a lot of attention to war. But these wars were extremely important to the formation of Arab American Muslim identities. And so I do spend quite a lot of time, they represent historical forces over which many times the protagonists in my book have little control. In World War one you really as someone who is either a naturalized citizen of the United States, or who was a enemy alien of the Ottoman Empire, can't come out and dissent.
