The Limitations of Randomized Controlled Trials

The reason in the threlidomy case is quite simple because when you're conducting a randomized controlled trial, you never have pregnant women as taking part in the trial. So it's really a very simple reason. For that reason I think when you're considering drugs you have to consider other types of evidence and I think in the th Relidomy case, well actually someone did. One of the American regulators decided not to allow threldomy because she realized that it was sufficiently small molecule that could pass into the fetus. But you couldn't have got that information from randomized controlled trials.
