The US and China - Hardware and Software of the Same Machine
I've spent the last three years trying to convince Western audiences why China's presence in Africa isn't going away. The Chinese have come and answered that question, but there are certain things that the Chinese don't do as well as their Western counterparts do. We're seeing at least on the US side, it looks like they're taking a really, really big bet on digital infrastructure. That is good. And again, we want to look back on 2022 in Africa, in the China-Africa relationship more broadly. So maybe I'm slightly more hopeful than I used to be.
