David Duke | 2. Robe and Ritual
Slow Burn
'Duke' and 'Jackson'
Duke wanted to sell the idea that his own movement was an equal and opposite force to the push for black civil rights. Duke's opponent was jesse jackson, widely seen as america's most influential black leader. Jackson believed in school integration, but not because he thought black students learn better alongside white ones. He understood that white schools got more government funding because they don't intend to leave each other ignorant. David didn't just look to previous white power movements for inspiration - he also took notice of the fight for black equality.
