The Importance of Beards in the Roman Empire
The Emperor turned out to be a Greco file Spaniard who loved all the things a proper Roman was supposed to hate. He was also an unapologetic and open homosexual, and of course, there was his trivial but somehow still earth shattering decision to abandon the austere, clean, shaven face that had defined the look of the Roman aristocracy for centuries. For his part, Hadrian did not trouble himself too much with the social taboos he was upending - for the most part, his iconoclasm seems to have happened by accident.
