The Importance of Ibn Kamuna in the History of Illuminationism

Ibn Kamuna's disagreement with Surah Vadi over the pre-existence of soul didn't stop him from upholding the illuminationist position on other topics. Qutab adin Ashirazi was a multifaceted thinker who wrote not only on philosophy but also on the sciences. He restores fire to its place alongside the other three elements, where Suhravadi had proposed that fire is nothing but heated air. The correspondence between Ibn Kamuna and Atuzi illustrates an awkward feature of 13th century philosophy in the Islamic East.
