How Do You Define Unconscious Bias?

How did you make the transition from academia to journalism? My background is physics. And in graduate school, I studied poetry. So for me, science writing and science journalism was kind of a natural way to blend these two fascinations of mine. It's what happens when people who hold egalitarian values can behave in ways that can flick with those values.
