This notion that by denying or neglecting or hiding from our own dreams makes us somehow more capable and more vibrant in the world is just bullcrop. You can't be a leader if you're not showing up for your own dreams. The amount of permission that you give other people, even people in your own family, even your children, is the least selfish thing you can do.
