The gunyokohaga set up a peaceful protest site as a last resort to stop the development. They blocked a small dirt road that led on to the site of the posed development, and they prepared to fight for it - but only if they had to. The mayor of oka gave the go ahead for the development in 19 90. But two years later he changed his mind again after pressure from the mohawk people who were concerned about their land rights.
