Dubu Fe and the Tea Rooms

In Paris in the 70s, the public toilets were called chapels. In New York, the public restrooms were called tea rooms. So that was a reference to this sort of underground gay culture which I was fascinated with in Chicago because it was multicultural. You would see a man in a suit that looked like he was from Wall Street engaged with a man of color who looked like an transit authority track worker. That became the whole subject of the tea room drawings.
