The universe is made up of fields, interacting fields. And all these elementary particles are merely local excitations in these fields. Every single electron in my body is merely a local excitation in that in almost infinite electron field. Similarly, every proton is madeup of quaks. The quacks have their own fields. When they interact together, they form bound states that appear to be protons and all, but everything is just fields.
