Cavalry Against Artillery

Cavalry against artillery was a bit of an odd match up. Cavalry could sometimes use their mobility to strike an enemy battery from the flanks or rear, where they would be safe from canister fire and grape shot. But any cavalry unit that found itself in the sits of loaded artillery pieces would face a deadly slaughter. The best artillerymen in the world were not capable of doing so fast enough to respond to the threat of advancing cavalry.
