Bats have evolved the capacity to omit sounds and then bounce those sounds off objects. They understand how the frequencies are changing as they come back, and interpret that into an actual shape or what the object is. And in facta that kind of abiliti can be trained into humans. Some people that are visually impaired have been using that kind of technology by training themselves with clickers on their smartphones.
