Sociology can sometimes seem like an escape from politics and maybe even a necessary one. The void today between society and formal politics means that we're not organizing parties, we're just masses and not classes. And all this means that you can't read off the social world from what's happening politically. So, in a way, that kind of makes sociology more appealing today because you kind of turn the lens away from all these go-outs.
