How Did You Navigate Through the Waters of Adolescence?
Even before the language of gender, i had the feeling of joy. And then people were so challenged by my joy and by my freedom, that they began to tell me, well, boys don't do that. So boy was actually a sort of trojan horse for shame. It was, you need to keep quiet, stop dancing, stop experiencing your joy. I'm really glad that we're having this conversation now, because a few years ago, i would have been really cruel to myself.
