Organizers asked Ira to be an MC at the 1970 B-In. He was supposed to briefly talk about speakers before ending his time by introducing Senator Edmund Muskie. "Ira seized the opportunity on stage in front of all those people to become the center of attention," says author Stephen Levy. During a purple football jersey and sporting pigtails with an unkempt beard, he espoused some of his many esoteric beliefs.
