The Sufi Path to Spiritual Unity
There was some tension with the idea that you just have this flight of spiritual fancy and mystical union with some other worldly experience. Sufis developed specific devotional practices like ascetic regimes of periods of fasting or periods of withdrawal first contemplation and seclusion and meditation and self-scrutiny techniques. There even developed a culture around commemorating some of the famous figures.
