There are thousands of experiments that have been done testing whether the presence of mycorrhizal fungi affects plants. And in a large majority of cases, plants benefit from those networks. But there's no clear pattern to the benefits of the common myCorrhizal network over not having it. In some cases, there are seem to be benefits where it really helps a plant to be connected through these networks to another plant. Other cases, it's clear that it hurts the plant to beconnected in that way and detrimental.
