Gamification and Gifting in Social Media

When we do something like retweet someone or even follow someone, we're gifting them. And a very good indicator of that is the fact that often when we retweet someone or follow someone, people come back and say, Oh, thank you for doing that. Of course, they only do that if it's a gift. But the interesting thing is that in the world of influence and how people function, gifting is very powerful. People feel the need to reciprocate. There's been countless studies on this that really do show that when people are given something that their need to reciprocated is very strong.
