The Restoration of the Monarchy

Before 1640, about two-thirds of Ireland had been owned by Irish men and women. By 1660, thanks to the programme of confiscations, three-quarters of Ireland was in the hands of Protestants from mainland Britain. The disenfranchisement of the Irish had been affected and the consequences would reverberate down the centuries.
