James E. Eager's Flight Over Midtown Manhattan
The pilot was warned that the weather was bad and that the tower of the Empire State Building, a landmark for airmen in this area, could not be seen. After over 50 missions in Europe, flying in the worst weather conditions imaginable, what could possibly happen to him here in the United States? He started to make a little bit of a turn which brought him over Midtown Manhattan. And as he started to straighten out, the clouds broke up enough for him to realize he was flying among skyscrapers.
