The Negative Liberty of Privacy
negative liberty is a kind of liberty that is often associated with liberal democracies. The idea is that you should be free to do what you want and not have any kind of interference. So one of the examples that the Bruin gives is, if I remember correctly, is that if you know that your data is being collected and it will be used for deciding whether you get a job or not, then you yourself will affect your behavior - even if nobody technically steps in and changes it.
