Tyson's asteroid was discovered in 1994 by Carolyn Shoemaker and David Levy. They both went on to get all possible honorary degrees and awards in the field. In 2015, there was a companion that is about 11 kilometers in size. And he can tell you that at least 15% of main belt asteroids are binaries.
