If someone does walk in with a shotgun and demands to take a million dollars out of it, that's not your money. That's money that's insured and there's whole processes to protect against that. What this ultimately comes down to is to offer the same kind of security that you get from keeping your money in a bank, you have to re-implement the bank. If you've got 50 bucks in Bitcoin, well, okay, who cares? But long before you get to $3.6 million worth, you can't be the only individual providing security for that much value and not expect it to get taken from you.
