Is Ashera a God of the Jews?

Even in the ancient times, there would be a kind of competition of folk religion. It's just like today, you know, we have the Catholic Church, but not all Catholics are faithful Catholics. And the same thing happened in Israel. You had the prophets and at least in during various periods, the temple authorities supporting the Orthodox view of we're just worshiping this one God. But then you also had temptation to worship other gods because of the mixing with the Canaanites.
