The contours of this latest atrocity are depressingly familiar. The suspected assailant bought two assault weapons on his eighteenth birthday. We still don't have a motive for what's happened, but the big picture point is that active shooter incidents are becoming very anddisturbingly common. Since 20 17, they've nearly doubled, according to fbi data. And since andy hook, there have been 900 shootings on school grounds.
