The Importance of Mentorship in Animation
I was actually a computer science major. So even though I always wanted to be an animator, the world was going over to CGI. And so I went a very technical route, but I was still taking art classes on the side. When I graduated, I didn't have a demo reel or a portfolio that would have been accepted by any of the major studios. There was this new program called animation mentor.com and it was all online. It was started by three professional animators, two of them were at Pixar and one was at ILM.
