The Role of Robustness in AI Safety
One of the things that I'm hearing in the novertone, and I know you thought about this issue as well as it relates to AI safety is robustness. A lot of your group has done work on trying to figure out, let's say, in preventive medicine or screening, how to make sure that the technologies are robust and work in the field. The worry is that they would behave in an unpredictable way when things are out of the ordinary. One of the most useful tools here is actually the ongoing monitoring of systems and understanding how their predictions play out.
